Systems are precision instruments for the alignment of objects to
a reference line, which is defined by the line of sight of the system. |

| Particularly noteworthy on the alignment telescopes is the wide setting range of object distances from tube ending to infinity. The alignment line being concentric with the barrel, makes them ideal tool for alignment of bore holes and bearings, because with tight adoption of the instrument in a reference bore hole the reference axis is already given. There are three groups of alignment instruments: alignment collimator, alignment telescope and alignment autocollimator. Alignment collimator allows the projection of a reticle along a reference line. The alignment telescope can be focussed on to targets that are located at different distances and determinates the deviation of the targets with respect to the reference line. The alignment autocollimator is a combination of the foregoing variants. It offers the additional possibility of measuring the tilt angle of the target with respect to the reference axis. The picture below shows the use of an alignment autocollimator for alignment of bore holes. For this application reference marks are plugged into the bore holes and the holes are aligned by and by. If the reference has got a reflecting surface it is also possible to adjust them to be collinear. |
